Shimano’s new Technium FC series of spinning reels are the perfect range for anglers who are taking their first tentative steps into lure fishing with braided lines, but who may not need all the bells and whistles more expensive reels have.
There are three sizes; the diminutive 1000FC for ultra-light estuary and freshwater work, the 2500FC for bigger hardbodies, soft plastics and slightly larger fish in the same environments, and the versatile 4000FC for soft plastic use on snapper, barra, even casting slugs at salmon, tailor and small tuna offshore.
Three A-RB bearings and a roller bearing keeps the internal operation smooth, while Dyna-Balance eliminates retrieve wobble at any speed, from a gentle roll to a full-tilt crank.
The Aero Wrap II two-speed oscillation system maintains even line lay with no hills or valleys, and the oversize Power Roller cuts down on friction as well as line twist, and assists in the line leaving the spool in the wake of a hot running fish. The large multi-washer drag system gives line smoothly.
A spare cold-forged aluminium spool, a set of adjustment washers to modify the winding shape of line on the spool, and a tube of oil for lubricating the main gear just underlines what incredible value for money the Technium FC spinning reel series are.
