In 2004, Shimano revolutionised cast control technology with the award-winning Calcutta TE DC (Total Efficiency, Digital Control). It contained the world’s first self-energising Digitally Controlled Braking System. This waterproof DC System uses spool rotation to recharge with every cast so there is no need for a battery. The DC System assesses spool speed and applies just the right amount of resistance to prevent overruns and backlash.
