Shimano’s Thunnus CI4 is part of a new breed of spinning reels made from an incredible strong but also an incredibly light material. The CI4 body of the Thunnus is made from graphite, infused with carbon fibre, which makes this such a unique material. This is what makes usually quite a heavy saltwater reel like the Thunnus very light and perfect for long battles with big reef fish.

The Thunnus also features Shimano’s famous baitrunner technology which makes this perfect for bait fishing. So if you are live-baiting for Longtail Tuna or Spaniards offshore, the new, robust CI4 build of the Thunnus is a baitrunner aficionado’s dream.

Coming in sizing from 4000 sizes up to 12000, these reels were built for heavier salt water species and can cover every inshore and light-medium offshore application imaginable. After free spooling your offering down the water column to your target species, the baitrunner function is switched on. The spool turns slowly, as a fish is fooled to take the bait under what seems like near zero tension, turn the handle and engage the main drag system -- you're on!
