Shimano introduces an optimized Dura-Ace freehub FH-7850 and four new wheel sets that carry this new rear hub. The titanium freehub body is now compatible with 8, 9 and 10 speed cassettes. Furthermore it features a quicker pawl engagement and the sealing performance has been improved by 400%.
The four, new Dura-Ace wheel sets carry the new rear hub and they also have an upgraded appearance with a sharp edged hub design and red spoke nipples. All Dura-Ace wheelsets have radial lacing in the front wheel and the rear wheel has a cross over spoke pattern at both sides to increase torsional rigidity.
WH-7850-C24-CL (Clincher – Carbon-alloy composite rim) Most remarkable novelty is a Dura-Ace clincher wheel set with an ultra thin aluminum rim, reinforced with carbon composite to save weight. This wheel set carries 16 butted (2.0-1.5-2.0), stainless steel spokes in the front wheel and 20 in the rear wheel. The front wheel has a rim height of 24mm and the rear wheel has been developed with a 23mm high offset rim for extra sideways rigidity. The result is a striking clincher wheel set that combines a lightweight design (1388g per set) with an exceptional rigidity.
WH-7850-SL (Tubeless – Scandium rim) Shimano was the first manufacturer to introduce a road-racing wheel set for tubeless tires two years ago. We have now upgraded the technical details and appearance of this wheel set to further enhance the use of this new technology. This wheel set carries 16 butted, stainless steel spokes in the front wheel and 20 in the rear wheel. The rim of the front wheel is 24mm high and the rear has an offset rim with a height of 23mm for extra sideways rigidity. These wheels are the perfect choice for all those road racers who want to enjoy the new tubeless technology. Weight of this wheel set is 1492g.
WH-7850-C50-TU and WH-7850-C24-TU (Tubular – Carbon rim) Also the Dura-Ace carbon tubular wheel sets (high and low rim) have been updated with many technical improvements and a new design. Most important mechanical differences are the cross over spoke lacing pattern on both sides in the rear wheel, the quicker pawl engagement of the freehub body and the compatibility with 8, 9 and 10 speed cassette sprockets. The design was upgraded by a different shape of the hubs and by using new decals. Weight of wheel set WH-7850-C24-TU is 1231g. WH-7850-C50-TU is 1465g.
