The new Shimano Dura-Ace WH-7801-SL wheelset is compatible with both clincher and tubeless tires. The "SL" in the model name stands for "Super Lightweight".
They have a 24mm aerodynamic rim profile and the rear wheel has been developed with a wide flange hub design and an asymmetrical rim for additional rigidity.
The rims have been manufactured of super lightweight anodized Scandium alloy. Set weight will be 1520 grams (front 650g and rear 870g). This new high end wheelset has 16 bladed stainless steel spokes in front and 20 in the rear wheel. Compatible with Shimano 10-speed only.
Advantages of the new tubeless technology for road racing:
- Comparable with steering and riding characteristics of tubular tires
- Saves for about 20g over tires with latex tubes and up to 60g over tires with butyl tubes
- Slower air loss in case of a puncture, similar to tubular tires
- Possible to mount tires without tire levers
- Allows road repairs with standard inner tubes
